Ahrrr matey. There's something about a black and white striped top that screams pirate, especially with swashbuckler boots. Maybe the only things missing from this outfit are the eye patch and the parrot, but I felt great in it all day. We were hauling boxes in and out of storage at the store, and these boots, already twice revived by the cobbler, are remarkably comfy. The choker is from a very cool little store that used to be (maybe still is) on Ellis, just off of Bernard in Kelowna. The gafas are my new 'lucky brand' frames that I bought online. The handbag was a gift from one of our suppliers (OPI, where the 'chick flick cherry' nail polish came from). Both the sweater and the capri's are about one million years old. I'm thinking they were Winners finds, but honestly I don't really remember.
Today, Game 7 day, I will be wearing blue and cheering on our 'Nucks' to Stanley Cup victory from a Yaletown bar with some friends. This cup run has been the biggest wave of city spirit to ever hit Vancouver, definitely more than the Olympics, and maybe even more than Expo. Crazy. And we're right in the heart of it. I can hear the roar from the stadium and the streets as I watch the goals on TV. The parade up our street after each game, home or away, is unbelievable. And it's all just been a warm-up for tonight. Should be interesting.

Such a great post!! and sorry, but being 2 hours from Boston, I have to cheer Bruins!!!
YIPES!!
Sure hope your shop did not get looted and trashed like the ones on the news this morning!!
Good Lord, hope you are safe and sound, A few Houligans can creat total chaos.
Hey Sandy, your Bruins played an amazing game. I'm a Canucks fan through and through, but that look of joy on Chara's face as he hoisted the cup is what the game is all about.
Hap, our stores were fine, but our home is right smack in the middle of where the riots were! It was unbelievable, watching the plumes of smoke rising, dumpsters and cars on fire, people jumping on them, fighting. The scariest part was seeing the wild, drunk, excited expressions on the faces in the crowd. Such a weird energy to feel. We're in a townhouse with big glass windows at street level. It was a bit of a tense night, that's for sure.
The better story is the 20,000 passionate Vancouverites who showed up first thing next morning and cleaned the city. The boards that are covering the open shop windows are covered with writing; gratitude to the police, firefighters and emergency response teams, denouncements of the criminals who instigated the violence and love letters to our beautiful city. They're amazing. It'll make a great gallery showing once the glass goes back up!
Great news Sketchalina!! It's always gratifying to see the decent citizens take their town back after one of these episodes. Hopefully there will be lots of video of the drunken idiots who did all the damage and they will all be caught. GLAD you came through it unscathed and intact!Come down to Seattle and enjoy a Mariner's game sometime!!
Love your pirate outfit... it was a great Stanley Cup series, all of the games exciting to watch. Since Peaverly used to play for our hometown minor league hockey team we were pulling for Boston, even though it sure would have been nice to see Vancouver take the cup too. What struck me about the riots was the people holding their phones over their heads to film it... what is WRONG with people? Then the good people showed up the next day, gives us all hope that their are people of honor everywhere still.
Would be nice if all those folks with their cellphone videos would post them on Youtube so the police could look them up and arrest them!!
Ha! Sites popped up on the internet that very night, and everyone sent videos and photos in. They've made a bunch of arrests based on cell phone footage. Guess it's not just sports pros and politicians who should be concerned about getting social media busted!
Lovely page - stripy shirts are fab.
It was interesting to hear about the trouble and response. Glad you were ok in your house.
Just came across your site and I'm enjoying perusing your sketches.
Tchao-wow from Portugal.
Hi Ruca, thanks for connecting. I just checked out your blog. Love it! So does my furry side-kick Yogi.
